I strongly believe in the positive personal and social aspects of being involved in the fine arts. Music enhances physical coordination while stimulating both logical and creative areas of the brain. I look forward to sharing as much as I can in the areas of voice and piano instruction with additional emphasis on the quality of musicianship.
This quality, “musicianship”, is nothing that can be seen or touched. Music is an outward expression of something within: a quality experienced after note-reading and technical skills are accomplished. To this end, daily exercises and practice are imperative. An aspiring athlete does not become successful if he performs only at game time, and we certainly attend school more than one day a week! Playing piano and yes, even singing, place demands on the mind and muscle groups that must be developed and maintained on a continuing basis. Students should keep active physically, mentally and socially. Music is also an expression of life’s experiences.
Ultimately, the study of music should be fun and self-satisfying. A sense of personal accomplishment and the broad range of mental and emotional benefits are sufficient reasons to study music. Even without the goal of becoming a professional musician, the pursuit of music can be an end in itself.
